Finis!

I fussed with her wings for quite a while, but I am so glad that I did.  Yesterday, she had really long wavy blonde yarn hair, but you could hardly see her wings from the front when she was finished.  So she got a rather massive haircut!  Her halo is a piece of silver trim, wired to hold its shape.  It is also wired into her head so that it will not come off.

When all was said and done, I thought, "hmmmmm....  I might do this again."  So in addition to signing and dating her, she is also numbered ...  #1.

Have a good evening everyone!

Angel Update...

I worked on this angel into the afternoon and had very little to show for it.  You see, this angel rag doll is a Christmas Tree Topper, so I needed to figure out how to get it on the spire of a pine tree.  Just sitting it there wouldn't work for me.  So it was a bit of an engineering problem.

I thought about just attaching some sort of tube to the back, but that didn't work for me either.  Somehow, I needed the spire of the tree to go into the center of the angel.  So I cut a whole bunch of different doll bodies until I hit on one that did work for me.  This angel, at the customer's request, is supposed to be 5 or 6 inches tall.  Also, there has to be room on the body for my tag (thank you US Government).
To accommodate these requirements, this doll body has really long legs, and a significant space between them.  Once I had the body sewn together and stuffed, I made two spacers out of the same material into which I inserted a piece of poster board.  Once the ends were secured, I bent the two pieces around a pencil to make them curved.  Now the angel has a place to slip right over the spire of a tree, just the way it is supposed to!  It looks a bit weird in the photo, but I do think it will perform beautifully.

Once I got passed this issue, things went along smoothly.  She has a white satin slip and a white chiffon with silver glitter swirls dress.  She has lots of wavy blonde hair, which still needs to be styled.  Tomorrow, she will get wings and a halo and her hair done and the lace trim on her satin slip, and she will be ready to go.

Have a good evening everyone!

Life Goes On!

We had an "okay" show over the weekend.  Fortunately, it was local, so we didn't have restaurant and lodging bills to take a bite out of our sales.  This is a good thing!  But we sold a bunch of miniature rag dolls again, so I'm making more.  I have all the little bodies cut and sewn, and all of the little dresses made.  Now, it's just a matter of stuffing and hair and faces and dressing!

Tomorrow, I will be doing something I haven't done before...  making an angel.  This angel will be a rag doll - which is not different - but she will need to be a bit more formal and much more fussy than my dolls typically are.  She is a special order and she's paid for, so here I go!  I will post pictures tomorrow of my adventure!

Have a good evening everyone!

I'm Still Alive!

I can't BELIEVE it's been almost a month since I posted here...  please accept my apology!  I've been crazy busy (obviously) and the time has just flown by.

We did shows two weekends in a row - actually four days apart - and they were diametrically different.  You already heard about the one where Caleb gave me such a wonderful gift.  The next Wednesday, we headed out for a show in Brian Head, Utah, over Fourth of July weekend.  Brian Head is located in the mountains at just shy of 10,000 feet elevation.  The scenery is very alpine - with lush green meadows and stands of tall, old-growth pine.  It's worth doing this show just to enjoy the beautiful views and vistas.

But we hardly got to do that!  We were crazy busy all four days of the show.  It was just wonderful!  When we got home, my brain was in a frenzy - yes, it's terrific to have such a good show, but now I have just over three weeks to recover and be ready for the next one!

So in the last three weeks, I've made 33 miniature rag dolls (and sold some more through my shop at HandmadeArtists.com), 24 headbands (all but two of them with flowers), assorted baby footwear, and a bunch of ruffle scarfs.  We set up for the next show this evening, and I'm as ready as I am going to get.

So I hope you are all well, happy and busy.  I promise it won't be another month before I post again!
