Maybe It's Just Me, But....
I've been a knitting wonder lately... I guess it is baby blanket season, which is certainly okay! But as I'm working through rows and rows of stitches, my mind does tend to churn.
Here's the blanket I'm working on right now. I'm using three strands of baby yarn, all Bernat Softee Baby - one pink, one lavender, and one white. All the yarn was purchased from the same store at the same time, and all the skeins are (supposedly) 5 ounces or 140 grams. The completed blanket uses about 1.5 skeins of each color. So since I'm using all three yarns at the same time without exception, they should all run out at the same time... right? But that isn't what happens!
The white yarn ran out first, a full three rows (264 stitches) before the lavender ran out, and it was another two rows before I had to attach the second skein of pink. When the white ran out, my brain went, "hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......"
I got out my postage scale and weighed all three brand new skeins of yarn. Using ounces, they all came out close to each other. So I switched to grams. The white skein weighed 147 grams; the pink, 139 and the lavender 143! All three had the paper labels still on, but still, shouldn't they all be the same, since the label says they are?
This is pretty much the norm for me when purchasing yarn. The blanket before this one used Paton's yarn and I had the same issue... they ran out at radically different times. It's getting to the point where I think I may need to take my postage scale with me to buy yarn!
What's your experience? Am I just lucky this way?
